We Need More Laws Like the Uniform Monday Holiday Act

The law changed the observance of certain federal holidays to Monday instead of being on a certain date each month. This has made three day weekends a reality and given Americans reasons to take extended vacations.

Laws like this consider the lives of people. We need more laws that do that!

What am I up to this week?

Tonight I'll be at The Music Building in midtown Manhattan playing drums and singing with Rene Alexios and Jeremy Arwas. Our band name has yet to be determined.

Tuesday, I receive my massage and chiropractic adjustment then head over to Sound City to work on new Violet Machine material. We have a few songs lined up to learn.

The day after that I'm going to take my girlfriend out to 1742 Wine Bar on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. I bought a Groupon deal for us that includes a full bottle of wine. I'll spend the night with her, then head over to Citi Field to watch the Mets' game as part of In Demand's summer outing.

Friday, I'm going to the New York City-based Animation Block Party in Williamsburg to watch Greg Condon's short film.

Saturday, I'm going to learn Pro Tools during a class at Guitar Center Manhattan. Then in the afternoon, I have my goal setting session with Greg Sims.

What an awesome week and thank you all for making it even better!

Mindfulness

My trip to the beach yesterday reminded me about living in the moment. I was with my girlfriend and as we rode the subway to Rockaway Beach, we noticed how in everyday life, most people are stuck in their stories or the running dialogue of their thoughts. Letting go or releasing attachment to these stories, allows me to connect to the world on a deeper level that is kinder and filled with more compassion.

I'm really excited that it's Friday.
Right after work, I'm going to the Shambhala Meditation Hall of NYC to lead the public sitting as an umdze - come join me 530pm-7pm.
Saturday, I'm talking with Greg Sims for my weekly PGST check in and then playing a gig with Violet Machine at Lit Lounge at 11pm - come support!
Sunday, I'm taking my lovely lady to Rockaway Beach to get some sun and play in the waves.

Negotiating Salary Demo Script

I compiled this negotiation script from the Ramit and Justin video "How the pros Negotiate Salary" to help people earn more money.

I’d like to offer you…$$
--
Thank you very much.
I’m very excited about the role.
First and foremost, I want to be here. This is the job that I want.
With that said, the experience that I bring to the table, the value that I’ve demonstrated in my prior roles, warrants a higher salary.
In terms of my own research regarding this position and similar positions at this company and other companies, I’ve found that there is a salary range of about 40-55 thousand.
Given the success I’ve had at prior roles, which I believe I’m going to bring to this role as well, and my experience with asset management systems, my proven track record of efficiency, my communication skills, and my attention to details, I believe I deserve to be toward the higher end of that range.
My aspiration is to make $X00,000.
--
But the economy…
--
I totally understand that. But I encourage you to look at this like an investment. You can either pay someone $X0 or $X00,000 to take on the job who might not be as invested in their work and just get by or you could spend $X00,000 and work with someone who is going to bring in money for you, save money for your clients and retain one of your largest accounts.

Great Affirmations for Turning Around Moments of Sadness

The value and consequence of my life is not determined by what I assume other people think about me. My life is inherently valuable.

I keep showing up for my life every day.

I am grateful for my dedication and awareness.

I am a success!

My purpose is to leave fear behind.

Some awesome positive thinking videos I've been watching this week.

I've been listening to Jim Rohn's "Take Charge of Your Life" seminar. I'm so grateful that I'm able to listen to this during my day. It motivates me to take charge and change my thoughts.

This video explains how our thoughts are tangible energy and that with conscious manipulation of the thoughts in the direction we want our life to go, we can influence the trajectory of our life.

My new apartment and energy

While searching for my new apartment, I learned that I have a lot of energy to put towards the projects I want to complete. I have also been experiencing this during my work with Greg Sims and his Practical Goal Setting Technique.

I was able to secure a new apartment in Brooklyn that was recently renovated, near the intersection of two MTA subway lines and I am saving nearly $200 per month on rent/utilities charges.

What will I do with the energy I had put towards the apartment search?

I will find myself a job that fits my desires.

I want a salaried job that pays me $45-55 thousand per year, with full benefits including generous vacation time. I want the work I do to be more satisfying for me and something I feel proud to do.
